Basically dragonrage, you have antialiased with magents, ehich looks nice and smooth, but ASH only makes pure magenta (255,0,255) transparent, leaving the blended ones as they are. Unfortunately the problem here is not with ASH, but with the way Photoshop saves palettes.* So it is extremely time-consuming to do any more transparency. *Though coming to think of it, there is an option to make certain textures have transparency...

I don't see any problem with Photoshop. You won't get these magenta border colors if you use it correctly I don't any reason to stop giving transparency to the portraits.

I didn't know the PAL (I assume that's what you have) version had ZSS on the character selection screen.

Judging from the awkward position of random... I think he's using a custom CSS.
Custom CSS [spunit262] 0468310C 48000064 C2683170 00000008 387E006C 3B600000 3C808068 38840DE0 7CBB20AE 7CA50775 41800020 2C050029 40A10008 38A00029 94A30004 3B7B0001 2C1B002A 4180FFDC 7FC3F378 00000000 02680DE0 0022FFFF 06680DE0 000000YY ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ YY Number of characters ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ 00 Mario 01 Donkey Kong 02 Link 03 Samus 04 Zero Suit Samus 05 Yoshi 06 Kirby 07 Fox 08 Pikachu 09 Luigi 0A Captain Falcon 0B Ness 0C Bowser 0D Peach 0E Zelda 0F Sheik 10 Ice Climbers 11 Marth 12 Mr. Game & Watch 13 Falco 14 Ganondorf 15 Wario 16 Metaknight 17 Pit 18 Pikmin & Olimar 19 Lucas 1A Diddy Kong 1B Pokemon Trainer 1C Charizard 1D Squirtle 1E Venasaur 1F Dedede 20 Lucario 21 Ike 22 Robot 23 Jigglypuff 24 Toon Link 25 Wolf 26 Snake 27 Sonic 28 None 29 Random
There is a newer version somewhere... somewhere on the USB Gecko forums.

Sorry, what I meant was photoshop (or GIMP or anything else) doesn't save transparency when you used indexed colour - if it did there would be no problem. As it is, you have to make ASH manually add transparency, which is much more of a pain. - This isn't photoshop specifically.

Before the bad news... I'd like to say thanks again elrefugio for all of your work! And... the bad news. I've conducted several tests (not via burning, via usb gecko... as I am the one who figured this method out... there is a 50% chance that any errors are my fault). But, here's the results. stevetv's ice mages (direct download from him, no editing on my part) Joey90's Bob the Builder (direct download from him, no editing on my part) Joey90's Blue Metaknight (direct download from him, no editing on my part) Vyse's Attempt at Chrono Ike (But resaved by me using gimp, it complained about too many colors) My attempt at Mr. L (Saved in GIMP) As you can see... the two GIMP ones (the others might be, I'm not sure) fail in a weird way... the image is shifted out of place. The same shifting occurs if I attempt to edit either of the working portraits in GIMP, with, the spectacular addition of stevetv's icemages crashing tplextract. As I am now able to test these without burning, I'd be willing to conduct experiments for ya. (Assuming... it isn't my test method which is screwy) Here are the files I used: www.adrive.com/public/fe94aadc4074a3a7d46905f9cd1ecc56311d3037906cd80eb671c2d0af5c81c5.htmlThe #1 iceclimber image is edited in GIMP, all the rest are pure coppies of stevetv's original. The mario also included is by Vyse, but it complains about a large number of colors... when it had 240 exact.

I'll take a look into it, give me some time. I can't confirm antyhing, but it seems that it's a USB Gecko problem.

Hopefully. (Since well... if you have a usb gecko... there really isn't a need for custom portraits. ) But as far as I can tell, I'm simply uploading directly to the 1P portrait slot in memory (which, apparently stores all portrait data at once, but reloads the data each swap). (92F27BC0 --- or so it has remained throughout all my testing over the past 2 days) I'm definitely gonna try some more tests --- and am curious if those files I linked to (at least the GIMP modified Ike / Luigi) work for anyone else. --- I'll try again and see if messing with breakpoints will help... maybe the textures are slightly modified like the character texture data... And thanks again!

Actually... now I'm more sure than ever it's a problem with your program (or well, to be more specific, a problem GIMP has with your program). After more unsuccessful attempts messing around with uploading in USB Gecko... I decided to extract the common5_en that CUPASH created. And well... that failed pretty badly --- it got to one file and then stuck there seemingly forever... so I looked at the reported byte size... impossibly huge compared to the other files. So I took a guess... and grabbed Luigi's brres (MenSelchrFaceB080.brres, the one created by CUPASH out of my MrL) and extracted it manually via dragging it onto SSBExtract. Bingo! The same huge filesize. Before I stopped it... it had created the palette and texture folders, the former... empty, but the texture folder had two files inside: MenSelchrFaceB.081.tpl (20.5KB) <-- normal MenSelchrFaceB.082.tpl (702MB) <-- WTF? So, I further extracted that first tpl (since... the latter was ridiculous, and I had not modified Luigi's 2nd portrait) and got...

Yeah, it should be an ASH-GIMP problem, I tried it with gimp too, and the results were horrible.
