This is exactly how I did it. I tried to make them before but failed. When This was released I ran the extract part, replaced the TGA's, and ran the create part. It gave me an error about palette's (not sure exactly what anymore) so I downloaded a photoshop trial, opened the TGA's changed the mode to RGB, and then back to indexed to give it a palette again, and saved. It told me I had too many colors, so I reduced the colors, and it worked just fine. I have an NTSC version of SSBB. elrefugio is my favorite person in the world right now. Is there like a tutorial on how to do what you did? I'm confused. And is there a way to get the TGA's from the pac or pcs files?

Everyone just read the readme that comes with all this fun stuff. if the number of colors is above 256 u need to change it to local (perceptual) then u could just type in the number of colors u need...try to make it under 100 though. sometimes its too big but if its under 100 colors it should work just fine and still look ok in game.

I coded a new way in CUPASH to detect palettes hoping to make it work with Gimp or other programs, but it seems that it failed. I installed GIMP and made a modification and it works perfectly (yes, the palette is in the top and it's not 256 colors). So my new method did not fail, please tell me what program are you using and what errors are you getting because is not in my possible errors list This method will be implemented in ASH 2.3, so people will be able to use GIMP and other programs too. Sorry... I didn't realise that you had fixed it. Firstly, I am using Paintshop Pro 9, which as far as I can tell, saves the palette data at the start. Second, If I leave the palette at the start I get 'ERROR: You used too much colours in Big Bowser1 (Maximum colours for this portrait : 240 colours) Press any key to continue... Obviously, I am making sure NOT to use more than 240 colours (Only around 100) Thirdly If I save a palette file in paintshop, then change it to put a load of 0,0,0's at the start and the colours at the end, then CUPASH tells me 'UNEXPECTED ERROR: big metaknight4 has erroneuos colours. Press any key to continue' If I do that, then it just comes up again and again. Maybe I will just have to download photoshop and use that to save the tgas...

Working with GIMP? elrefugio, did I ever tell you that I loved you? It works for me, but please try it for yourself too If it really works, then I'll release ASH v2.3 with this method. Very strange... I've run mine through the game about 3 times already, and I've had no success in getting ANY of the custom CSPs to show up. (Using USA version.) Didn't have any trouble in the "create" process, so those portraits must've been correct... and I replaced the correct .pac file as well. Hopefully this'll be looked into. Read the instructions. You must place the new files in the newfiles directory. Now that you have basically become a legend making these ASH programs, are you planning on continuing with an ItemASH? No, sorry As I said before, I have now what I wanted to hack SSBB, I'm not interested in stage nor item hacking. Can you recolor the original portrait in the game like steveTV's portraits with this? Of course, (he did it that way I believe). Just copy the template to the newfiles directory and then modify it Hey, thanks again for the great program! I have a problem though... say I down Zack_Neji's Goku portrait and place it inside newfiles. I run step2.bat and the window successfully closes and everything, but in my newfiles folder, there's a bunch of folders, the common5.pac, and the tga. There is nothing inside the folders though. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks! Read the instructions. You must place common5_en.pac in your neededfiles directory. Run step1 and now put yourfiles in newfiles. Please ask in this thread, I won't answer any PM. If your question has an answer, it will be helpful for other people to know the answer. So ask here. And is there a way to get the TGA's from the pac or pcs files? What are you talking about? If you want to extract TGAs from PAC you must use ASH. Thank for reading the readme! Please, send me a TGA file made with PSP so I can take a look at it. But it seems that PSP creates a special header for TGA files, and that means that if it's a PSP problem I won't fix it. You are not forced to download Photoshop, use GIMP, it's free!

I opened my TGA's in GIMP, changed mode to RGB, then back to indexed to insert a palette, and ran step2. This is what I got: I opened the same TGA's in photoshop, changed mode to RGB, then back to indexed to insert a palette, and ran step2 again. Worked just fine. I can upload both photoshop, and GIMP modified TGA's if that will help you troubleshoot.

It seems that the image is corrupt or not a valid TGA file. ASH even doesn't load the texture, so you did something wrong.

www.filefactory.com/file/afh88g5/n/Metamarx_CSP_rarThe .rar has 2 files - START, is the default output with colours at the start of the palette, END is my modfied one with colours at the end of the palette... I hope you can work out what the problem is, or I'll just have to download Photoshop and/or GIMP... EDIT: 'Acquired' Photoshop CS3, so now it works... still prefer paintshop though (I can give reasons if you want them ^_^)

Thanks el_refugio for making this, CSP and stock icon edits are easy as pie now. I have a question, though I started making some for my own textures yesterday they all show up in the game but some of them have a pink outline. Anyone having a clue what I've been doing wrong? Here's a picture (click for full size) it's most notably with C. Falcon. I've used 72 colors for his CSP and put 255 0 255 as the background color.

Ok, I know the problem. PSP makes a 256 palette like Photoshop but with some differences. I can fix it, but not today. Thanks el_refugio for making this, CSP and stock icon edits are easy as pie now. I have a question, though I started making some for my own textures yesterday they all show up in the game but some of them have a pink outline. Anyone having a clue what I've been doing wrong? Yes. That's because you used the Fill tool with the Sharpen mode activated. This means that the fill tool tries to sharpen the colors around the background so your character shape looks more sharpened. Don't check the sharpen checkbox and it will look correctly. Another way to fix it is to add magenta manually after turning it into Indexed. Go to Image>Mode>Color table and click on the next square after your last color and add magenta there. Then paint with magenta now. It can't sharpen other colors because it's indexed mode and it doesn't have any more colors to sharpen it, so it will show up correctly. Main problem is now to fix your already made images. Stay in indexed mode and paint all magenta with another color of your choice, then you will see some magenta pixels, paint them with a gray color and then paint again the background with magenta. Sorry for my explanation, I'm very bad in english but I hope you can understand it.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to try what you said. It appears I've still got quite a few things to learn about photoshop. Regarding my already edited images, changing them is easy. For every texture, CSP, etc. I alter I always save a photoshop file with all the layers intact, so I can go back editing them.
I have no problem understanding your english. Being a non native english speaker myself I've seen people speaking it way worse in my country.
