are they in a file type openable in photoshop, or does one have to put them back in to a different data file? (like gettin texes from brawl, getting the .tgas from dem, and puttin dem back into dat kinda file) UPDATE: Pictures plz (if avaible)? Specifically for Brawl characters, it'd be so cool to put .tgas from melee onto .tgas in brawl (though I doubt they're the same..) 1st: Yes, they are openable in Photoshop. They are in TGA format, just like the Brawl textures. However, putting them back in... I haven't figured that out just yet. (I can't remember the exact file type they're in, but they're certainly not in PAC or PCS files.) 2nd: Check out Spriters Resource some time... I'm going to be uploading a whole lot of the stuff I ripped to them (mainly trophies). But, if you're in need of an example, ah... Here. (Hopefully that's the kind of "snapshot" you were speaking of; from the trophy.) UPDATE: Awright, after going through some trial and error, I've managed to pull out the textures from Melee... but not in the manner I hoped. (Got them via Dolphin dumping. lol.) So now that I've got the textures... how would one be able to put them back in...? You used DOLPHIN?! You must have and endless well of patience. Did you manage to get more than 1 frame per second? Also, what program did you use to extract the textures from the memory dump? Haha, yes, I was fortunate enough to get quite a few more frames than that a second. (Thank goodness for Action Replay as well; helped out a lot in unlocking the stuff I needed. >_> ) And the program I used was... just Dolphin. It's an optional property you can click off whenever you feel like getting textures from a game. (I was also able to use this method to get some Pokemon Battle Revolution stuff... THAT took a little bit of time. ._. )

The models and textures are stored in .dat files. I don't know of any program that extracts stuff from those, let alone repacks them. I didn't realize how far dolphin has gone recently. I just downloaded the newest version and was really surprised to get over 30 fps (at one point it went past 50 ). Although I also found out that an N64 controller on Dolphin works better than a gamecube one on the actual console . BTW, not sure if this has been done already, but I've recently unpacked the sound files for the forbidden 5 and converted them into WAVs. Once I combine Mewtwo's voice WAVs (their channels were separated), I'll put them up for download.

^ Dolphin's gone very far indeed. I remember when I'd get a frame or two per second... if I was lucky. XP Perhaps there's some way we can find out HOW Dolphin extracts the files? Like, get rid of all the Dolphin accessories and just dumb it down to an SSBExtract-esque program rather than an emulator? Just a thought. (Repackaging... would more than likely be a lot trickier.) And Forbidden Five voice files would WIN. I don't think I've seen anyone bother with taking that up... Most definitely looking forward to that, Teh Research Guy.

The way I understand it, Nintendo pretty much makes an new OS per game. It's why we don't need the bios files to run them like with Playstation emulators. Each game has a set of instructions that tells it how to open files and unpack archives. You'd have to debug the game to get that info. Unfortunately, I don't have too much experience in that area. You'd have to talk to a major coder about that. But there are tons of codes in Melee, and there's always the Debug Menu itself. That could help narrow down the instructions you're looking for. You could always bring this up on Emutalk. Another place to look is the forums at HCS: www.hcs64.com/. Although most of the stuff there has to do with music ripping. BTW, I could share some of those sound files with you, but it'd be much easier over MSN .

Melee has crown Jigglypuff and rambo puff.
No texture hacking necessary.

Hey Register, I was wondering, can you rip the portraits off Melee for me?
EDIT: I need them in .TGA format if possible. You don't have to do this, I'd like it if you did though, if it isn't too much work.

^ Portraits, Shadow? Do you mean the CSPs from Melee? Those are up at Spriters' Resource... Sure, they're not in TGA format, but they're exact.~
Still, I'll look into it... The ripping process is rather tedious. <_<

Lol, I've been watching dolphin for a while now and it really has come a long way. BTW, I don't know if you guys knew this, but using dolphin, you can right click on the ISO, go to properties, click filesystem, and browse for almost any file you want off the ISO, then right click on one and extract it where ever you want. Also, I think they got texture replacement to work, so you could edit textures and test them all on PC.
