Ike's hair is a +2 file. So to Make the area around it transparent in Photoshop color all the white to magenta. (RGB: 255, 0, 255) and merge them then make it the Local (Perceptual) and check transparency. or at least that is what the ASH guide said.

Yeah, it works. My main problem is that it creates a border of Magenta around Ike's hair for some reason.

Because you are indexing after adding magenta!
Add magenta after indexing (either add the color afterwards, or make a small patch of magenta away from the anything else).
Otherwise... you get blending of colors.

hey marth i was having hte same problem but marcov helped me with it.
if ur using photoshop do this:
1. Go to image>mode>indexed colour. and uncheck the transparency box.
2. Now all the clear stuff should be white (it was white for me but other ppls turns black). Select all the white that was meant to be transparent (magic wand, clour select ect.). Once its all selected select brush and change the colour to magenta (Red: 255, Green: 0, Blue: 255) and paint all the seleced area with magenta.
3. After you have done the magenta part go to image>mode>indexed colour. Mkae sure transparenct is unchecked and the colours are right.
4. Run it through ash like normal and when it comes up to the texture with transparency it will say: Magenta found make it transparent?. Type y then hit enter.
VIOLA, you have nice transparency on your model ;D
